DANYA POLES talks about her experience in Salerno

DANYA POLES (Doral Academy High School Miami), who was awarded a scholarship for a 2 week Italian Language Course offered by the Accademia Italiana Salerno in collaboration with AATI - American Association of Teachers of Italian, talks about her experience in Salerno.

This was an experience that was more than I expected. It wasn't just the language that I learned, but I also had the opportunity to get to know  and learn about a place where I've never been before.

Since I got here, the first thing that I noticed and appreciated was the view: I loved that when I was looking at my right I was watching the mountains, but by just turning my head to the other side, I was able to see the sea.

The best thing about the house where I was staying at, was that my room was big and it had a balcony where I was able to see the whole town every time that I wanted to. I noticed that the lessons were different from regular classes: in those three hours it wasn't just taught Italian as a language, with grammar rules, but also as a culture. In fact, even though I'm Italian, and I already know the language, I learned new things. I also enjoyed the class thanks to my classmates and my teacher, Miss Pina, who are very nice and funny. Here I met new people from all over the world and I made new friendships.

In my free time I hanged out with my friends: we went to visit new places, such as Paestum, Amalfi, and Naples, but most of the time we would just stay at the beach here in Salerno.

Something that I really love about the south of Italy is the food, and I can say that it didn't disappoint my expectations, instead I was pleasantly surprised that the prices were pretty fair, compared to what I thought they were going to be.

In conclusion, this was an unforgettable experience because of the people, the food, the beautiful place and the view. A special thanks to Accademia Italiana and to AATI which awarded me with this amazing scholarship.

DANYA POLES (Doral Academy High School Miami), che ha vinto una borsa di studio per un corso di lingua italiana della durata di 2 settimane, offerta da Accademia Italiana in collaboraztione con AATI  (American Association of Teachers of Italian), parla della sua esperienza a Salerno

 Questa è stata un'esperienza che ha superato di gran lunga le mie aspettative. Non ho imparato solo la lingua italiana, che già sapevo, ma ho anche avuto l'opportunità di conoscere e scoprire un luogo nel quale non ero mai stata prima. 

Quando sono arrivata, la prima cosa che ho notato e apprezzato, è stato il panorama: amavo il fatto che guardando alla mia destra potessi vedere le montagne, ma che con il semplice gesto di girare lo sguardo dall'altro lato, potessi scorgere il mare.

Infatti, la cosa che mi è piaciuta di più riguardante la casa nella quale alloggiavo, è che la mia stanza era molto grande e che aveva una terrazza dalla quale potevo vedere tutta la città ogni volta che volevo.

Ho notato che le lezioni erano diverse da quelle "tradizionali": in quelle tre ore non veniva insegnato solo l'italiano come lingua, con regole grammaticali, ma anche come cultura. Infatti, pur essendo italiana e sapendo già la lingua, ho imparato cose nuove. Mi è anche piaciuta la classe grazie ai miei compagni e alla mia insegnante, la Signora Pina, i quali erano molto gentili e divertenti. Qui ho incontrato nuove persone da tutto il mondo e ho fatto nuove amicizie.

Nel tempo libero, uscivo con gli amici: siamo andati a visitare luoghi a noi sconosciuti, come Paestum, Amalfi e Napoli, ma quasi sempre restavamo sulla spiaggia qui a Salerno.

Una delle cose che amo di più del sud Italia è il cibo, e posso dire che le mie aspettative riguardanti questo tema siano state soddisfatte, infatti sono stata piacevolmente sorpresa dal fatto i prezzi fossero più bassi di quello che pensavo.

In conclusione, questa è stata un'esperienza che non dimenticherò mai, e questo è grazie alle persone che ho conosciuto, al cibo, al luogo e al panorama. Un grazie speciale all'Accademia Italia e ad AATI che hanno reso possibile il mio soggiorno concedendomi una borsa di studio.
